For some months now, the Magical Path website has been offering a free magic course. Although I've stopped using blogger, since Magical Path now runs from blog software, I thought it would be worthwhile making a brief post here as this blog still gets traffic.

The key to this brief course, and the entire magical world view, is summed up in the ancient words: Know Thyself.

And the earth was without form, and void;

and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The article "Are we living in a giant cosmic void?" by Amanda Gefter talks about a recent paper, by Timothy Clifton, that suggests that we are living within a giant void in space, and that such a theory could replace the need for the mysterious 'dark matter'.

According to Clifton, the problem may not lie with cosmologists' observations, but with their assumptions - namely, the Copernican Principle, which says we don't occupy a special place in the cosmos, and that the distribution of matter is homogeneous, so any given region of the universe is more or less the same as any other.

The Secrets Behind The Secret

Back in 2005 I wrote a review of The Secret Movie. Today I found another interesting critique of the "phenomena" of modern marketing, in the guise of spiritual "truths". The essay is called The Secrets Behind "The Secret". Perhaps the most important comment made is the the so-called "secret" (the law of attraction) is hardly a secret...

The real secret is that if a product is marketed well, even if it is recycling old information, it can generate a lot of people in the know. These people do have "the secret" - but it is not the same secret they are selling. I once read a quote somewhere that went along the lines of "the only way to get rich through a self help book is to write one." While I only partially agree with that statement, the sentiment is correct in that many people only read these kind of books (or view these kind of videos) superficially and do not make major and radical changes to their lives. The real magic is in the internal changes that occur through working processes, not through simple "wish fulfillment" (or "the law of attraction").
